"One Sun For Everyone" © 2003 St. Anger

What better way is there for us to understand our interconnectedness as human beings than to realize that there is only one Sun that shines for us and we are all equally dependent on it. The poor man working in the field, the rich woman in her castle, the homeless man on the street, the young one in the schoolyard, the teacher poring over her books, the politician governing from his office. Though most of us take little time to consider it, the Sun, the rain, the wind, and other elements of nature grow our food for us all over the planet, and without the Sun, no human life could be sustained. This is a testament to our alikeness as humans despite our differences, and the fact that there is something bigger than we are, upon which our lives rest. We sometimes feel so powerful when we think of the technological advances humans have been able to make and the global structures we have been able to construct. However, the Sun, in all of its immense brilliance and power, was not created by a human. Nor were the trees, the oceans, the sky, the soil. There is a force that loves us, everyday, and upon which we depend for our lives to be maintained. All of us depend on this force. No life could exist without it. It sustains all. No matter our race, religion, sexual orientation, language, gender, nationality, etc. we are One as seen by this Light. And so it is with our dependence on and with one another as humans. Without one another we could not live. Let us recognize our interdependence-- as the Sun does not discriminate against us and loves us with an equal and nurturing love, neither shall we discriminate against each other and equally shall we express our love. Amen.
